TRP has made an adjustable smooth post canti pad. Yup, you read that right, adjustable. These pads come stock on the new, super trick TRP EuroX Magnesium brakes but if you don't want to drop over $250 on new brakes they are now available seperately to breath new life into your current wide angle cross cantis. TRP EuroX, Empella Frogglegs, Spooky, even those old Mr. Grumpys you have been clinging to for years. They all can be hopped up with the TRP Inplace Adjustable Pads.
The way they work is pretty simple really. So much so that you wonder why nobody has done it before. The smooth post has an Allen bolt that runs though it to a backing nut inside the pad holder. The interface between the smooth post and the pad holder is beveled. To adjust, just loosen the bolt, angle the pad and then tighten. Brilliant. The really cool thing is that it can be done "inplace" hence the Inplace name. Since the smooth post is seperate from the adjuster bolt you can adjust the toe independantly from the pad's post postion on the brake. Really slick.
The other great thing is that the pad holder uses standard Shimano road inserts so you have a wide choice of insert replacements. If you have a set fo carbon wheels you run on race day and aluminum wheels you run for training or super muddy days you can change pads out in a flash without changing the position of pad.
The pads are sold as a set of 4, enough for one complete bike. They also come in two versions, one loaded with inserts for aluminum rims and the other with inserts for carbon rims.
