Team Bikeman - Race Reports

My goal for the race was to place high enough to qualify for the national championships in September. The day started out early. I was firing up the stove and cooking oatmeal in the parking lot around 6:30 am trying to get everything together for the 8:30am start. Luckily the start was pushed back to 9am. The start combined Expert and Pro riders and went straight up the Killington access road, which is not exactly flat, for a short distance before banging a hard left onto the dirt and into the singletrack. I went off the line hard and jumped on the wheel of the last pro rider hoping the pace would shed a few people. A lead group developed pretty quickly. On the first lap one of my water bottles ejected in some rough singletrack, but luckily it was not that hot and I seemed to mange o.k. I was putting down a hard pace, but still trying not to kill myself . I wound up leading the majority of the race. Our lead group came down to three with one guy flatting on the 3rd of 4 laps and myself and one other riding the last lap together. I was able to get a gap before the last climb and stay away to the finish for the win.
