Valley Lumnezia Marathon
Written by Juerg Bauert Saturday, 23 July 2005 00:00
The first climb was 6.25 miles on a fire road and then a lot of singletrail which is unusual for marathons in Switzerland. At halfpoint the course went through a ski resort and then straight up the slopes. Some pushing was unavoidable. At noon the temperature was rising to almost 100 farenheit but water supply was well organised. After a nice singletrail-downhill through the historical village of Vella from the 16th century, we reached the lowest point, and from there it was 12.5 miles uphill to the finishline. My time was 4:55 hours. In my agegroup I finished 33th out of 67 and overall 141th of 213. It was a small, well organised event with a family athmosphere.Juerg Bauert
