Adrenalin 8 Hour Solo

Team Bikeman - Race Reports

After a bit of a late arrival on Saturday morning, we found ourselves waiting in the shade watching the countdown to the Le Mans start at noon. The key here being "waiting in the shade." It was Hot, low to mid 90's in the shade and the sun was blasting. The start went smooth. Andrew and I ran close to the front and managed to grab our Salsas off the rack without a hassle. We went right to the front on the first lap. The two of us rode pretty much together for the first few laps, flip flopping a bit. The heat, however, was really taking its toll. I was having some issues putting down food, and my stomach was killing me. I came about as close as you can get to puking, trying to eat a bagel. The only thing that seemed to be going down well was my vanilla bean Gu. I wound up eating 12 of them. I was also stopping at the aid station at the top of the climb every lap to refill a bottle, which was putting me into the 3 plus bottles per lap range. Andrew was also struggling with not eating enough. He, on the other hand, was fighting a migraine. The jarring from the descent was aggravating his head and forced him to slow down. I took a good break with Andrew after lap 6. I ate a lot of ham and cheese, fig bars, and a banana and managed to get my stomach back into shape. With the 8 hours running out, I headed back out and finished the day with 8 laps and first place. Andrew took fourth. We definitely missed not having a pit crew member pushing food at us. We finished off the day with dinner and a showing of Napoleon Dynamite at the EMS bus. All in all, a good weekend of racing for team Bikeman.
