Once a year the big guns come to town. A new venue, Inland Empire on the March Air Force Base. Course designer has plenty of real estate to work with to include paved start/finish, fly over, a whoops section, grassy infield with double barriers, curb hops, 4 step run-up, a massive railroad 10 step run-up followed by sketchy, loose and dusty descent into a combination of quick ascents. The first lap of every race category would provide an amazing mass of bodies and bikes strewn over the course. The groove got so deep in most turns that if you strayed, you were down or stuck in a foot of soft stuff. Lots of sand, plenty of sun. The best part was watching the pros doing it at night. UCI cyclocross, two days of racing, it doesn't get any better.
